There has been some discussion via email about opposition to expanding the Indian Heights mountain bike trails. I believe the emails were primarily to the mountain bikers and other RASC members may not be aware of the opposition. The Postbulletin has an article about this: www.postbulletin.com/newsmanager/templates/localnews_story.asp?z=2&a=455351At the time of this post, the comment section below the story has more opposed comments than for comments. I still have not read any valid opposition besides "not in my back yard" or "use the trail exactly like I do" comments. Do we have an idea how many parks are in the Rochester city limits? A friend pointed out there are many other parks in Rochester that do not allow mountain biking. The people who wish to hike trails without the occasional mountain biker have a high number of parks to choose from. People wishing to mountain bike have two parks available in Rochester. I am a supporter of the trail expansion. I would also like to attend the city council meeting where they bring up this issue. The article does not specify when the meeting will be held. If we could get the date of the meeting I will do my best to attend. Thanks, - Matt

Thanks for the note - I posted a comment as well. The more that do so the better we can overcome some of the misconceptions out there.

Please note there is also a one question survey on the same page about the article. Please take the time to vote.

I love the wording...
Should the Rochester Park Board expand the trails at Indian Heights Park to serve mountain bicyclists?
No. Leave it an unspoiled gem.
Yes. What good is public space if the public doesn't use it?
Did the author of the article walk the park at all??

Apart from the not-in-our-backyardigans being upset, what is the status of the trails at Indian Heights? Are they currently officially legit to ride on or not? My earlier understanding was that they were, but now I am not sure.
Even in their current non-expanded state they are pretty good for me to ride with my 9 year old.

Yes currently Indian Heights and Eastwood are the only two parks you are legally allowed to mountain bike in Rochester. The discussion is about allowing Rasc to make improvements and additions to the trail system at Indian heights. You are still allowed to ride the existing trail regardless of the outcome of this.

Cool. And a totally missed point on the Post Bulletin story. If it is an already occurring event at Indian Heights and the apocolypse has been averted, how would the addition of more trails cause a problem?
Though admittedly, if I pull off a deafening tire explosion up there the neighbors are gonna have to assume that another mountain biker gang shootout ended badly for someone.
