I've been reading the recent forums reviewing how the rides are going -- lots of good discussion. Hopefully we'll be able to follow up and get a little more organized.
One related topic I'd like to bring up is what happens when a group of people alters the route in mid-ride and does not follow the map. On one hand, it is nice to have that flexibility. On the other hand, it can be at the expense of someone who had a flat or just decided to drop out of a faster group they started riding with. One big advantage of having so many groups that go different speeds is that you can challenge youself and move up to the next faster group. It wouldn't be unusual to "drop out" of the group the first few times. Just wait a few minutes, and the next slower group will come along, and you just finish the ride with them. However, if that group changes their route, then you are stuck waiting (perhaps a long time) and riding home on your own. Even if we have a no-drop policy, there may be times someone wants to drop back to a group that "should be" following.
One exception to this guideline might be the very fast group (which does not have a no drop policy). The Easy Riders would be exempt because they may need to change the route to fit the abilities of their newest riders.
